Overcoming constipation after giving birth

Just gave birth and now suffering from constipation? How do we overcome postpartum constipation?No one likes talking about constipation. But the truth is women who just gave birth does not look forward to visit the toilet, not for the small duty or what more the big duty. And worse, what if the big duty is going through bowel irregularity and is constipated – just horrific.

For me, after giving birth from the first to the third baby, being afraid to visit the toilet is for sure, but I did not go through the experience of sitting on the toilet bowl till I shed tears so Alhamdulillah, I did not suffer from postpartum constipation. So, here I will share some tips to prevent / overcome postpartum constipation.

Try to eat as soon as you can after delivery to get the stomach filled up and going and hence stimulating bowel movement. Going through labour would have slowed down the digestion process and putting time off to eat after delivery slows it down even more and may result to constipation. So try eating as soon as you can.

Top up your food with plenty of high fiber food like vegetables and fruits, eat whole grain and cut down on white rice, bread or pasta.

These food you are taking would stimulate your bowels and drinking plenty of plain water will help the flushing down from your bowel process. Some people also suggests that having warm drinks or fresh juices in the morning helps with the stimulation of their tummy.

Another tip for bowel regularity – try taking a walk with your new born as some movement will also get the bowel moving too. Take slow walks right after a meal instead of lying or sitting down will help the moving of the bowels.

Overcoming Constipation During Pregnancy (without medicine)

Everyone has experienced constipation. This does not exclude the pregnant ladies. And if you are reading this post, I’m sure you are looking for some ways to ease the tummy. The many factors pregnant women experience constipation is due to the change of hormones, lack of fiber and nutrition in daily diet, lack of water intake, stress, sorrow and hectic lifestyle. Yes, when we are stressed, our tummy is affected. It gets upset when you are upset, so cheer up and move about.

The good thing about a slower digestion process is that your small intestines have more time to absorb the available nutrients in your food, although this means many pregnant women experience constipation.

So, what do preggo women have to do to solve this constipation problem

1. Drink more water, water, water

Preggy women should drink up at least 2L – 3L of liquids daily. And of course, try making this liquid just plain water and no-no to the sugary liquid stuff. For me, I love adding a twist of lemon to my plain water – great for constipation and good for detoxifying.

2. Eating more fiber

Add on more fiber in your diet definitely helps with the digestion process. Top up your diet with more vegetables, fruits, oats. The vitamins and nutrients that we get from our colourful and green friends will always benefit our body in soooo many ways. My favourite snack to eat that many use for home remedies when it comes to constipation are prunes and it tastes great too!

3. Exercise

It is quite tough to get physically active when you are pregnant but you have got to try to do some pregnant friendly exercises as it will get the bowel moving too. When we move about, the stuff in our tummy, the toxins and waste will move through our body too and hence, a better exit.

4. Be happy, stay positive, sleep well

When we are positive of things around us and see the good around us we tend to be more happy. So let’s try to not have doubt in anything we do. Also, It is important to remember that with proper diet and lifestyle, we will tend to be more happy as our body is happy. And….take a break and rest. Only we know when our body needs rest. So just do it, rest it out. Make sure you get enough sleep so your mood will be great and the tummy is happy.

Love at first week

I’m sure many moms have experienced some surprises post pregnancy. I know I did. I am going to share a problem I faced post pregnancy and how filling up basic nutritional gaps in my diet fixed it.

I had a terrible case of itchy skin after my first pregnancy. It comes and goes but after my third pregnancy, my scalp started to itch too. It itched real bad. Even after a shower it will still itch and it was worse at night. Affected my sleep. I really did not know what to do – I changed shampoo, washed my hair often, moisturised it but it still itched like crazy. So, like most women, I googled about it and found out the following:

1. Itchy scalp a common problem post pregnancy

Why I Blog?

I have drafted a few posts and had trouble deciding which would be my first. But, a decision has to be made and here it is. I am going to share with you why I have decided to blog and how the idea came around.

First, my husband comes from a long line of loving to do business on his own, jual macam-macam barang, kurma, minyak attar, shawl, toub (jubah for men), abaya etc. He does it since he was in school and it kind of stuck with him until now. Just the recent Ramadhan, we enjoyed supplying Kurma BAM and macam-macam kerepek. So this business and interest to trade, has somehow spread and got stuck to me.

Second, in around 2013, I got to know about Shaklee. My first product of Shaklee was Zinc complex. I took it for my hair fall after being pregnant with my second baby.
